With so many cuts that would hurt Americans across the country, here&rsquo;s just a few of the many cuts to the Department of Labor that Alexander Acosta will have to try and defend as he testifies before Congress.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\"><strong>Trump&rsquo;s budget would slash $1.1 billion from the Department of Labor and job-training programs. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bna.com\/trump-wants-percent-n57982088656\/\">Bloomberg<\/a>: &ldquo;The White House asked Congress to cut Labor Department funding by 9 percent in fiscal year 2019, the second straight year the administration is targeting job-training programs that receive broad bipartisan support. <strong>The proposal to slash the DOL&rsquo;s budget by $1.1 billion<\/strong>, to $10.9 billion, next year includes a $407 million reduction in spending on Job Corps centers for disadvantaged youth and $400 million in savings from eliminating the Senior Community Service Employment Program.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trump&rsquo;s budget cuts employment programs and job training grants that serve veterans, Native Americans, disadvantaged youth, and dislocated workers. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/graphics\/2018\/politics\/trump-budget-2019\/?utm_term=.4d14cb2f2e21\">Washington Post<\/a>: &ldquo;<strong>Shrink funding for Adult Employment and Training Activities, which serve veterans, Native Americans and young people who have dropped out of high school<\/strong>, by nearly half, from $810 million in 2017 to $490.3 million in 2019.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bna.com\/trump-wants-21-n57982088623\/\">Bloomberg<\/a>: &ldquo;The proposal to slash the DOL&rsquo;s budget by $1.1 billion, to $10.9 billion, next year <strong>includes a $407 million reduction in spending on Job Corps centers for disadvantaged youth<\/strong> and $400 million in savings from eliminating the Senior Community Service Employment Program.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bna.com\/trump-wants-21-n57982088623\/\">Bloomberg<\/a>: &ldquo;<strong>This year&rsquo;s proposal seeks significant reductions in programs implementing the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act grants for adult, youth, and dislocated worker training.<\/strong> WIOA, which is administered by the Employment and Training Administration, funds 33 job-training programs across the U.S.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trump&rsquo;s budget cuts grant funding to support those who lose their jobs in factory closures or natural disasters. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/graphics\/2018\/politics\/trump-budget-2019\/?utm_term=.4d14cb2f2e21\">Washington Post<\/a>: &ldquo;<strong>Cut funding for National Dislocated Worker Grants &mdash; support for those who lose their jobs in natural disasters or factory closures &mdash; from $219.5 million in 2017 to $51 million in 2019<\/strong>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trump&rsquo;s budget would eliminate $11 million in grants for OSHA programs, including one that provides training and education on workplace safety and health hazards. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2018\/02\/13\/trumps-budget-what-he-wants-eliminate-plain-english\/331147002\/\">USA Today<\/a>: &ldquo;Here&#39;s a list of 64 proposed eliminations from the budget&#39;s Major Savings and Reforms document, described as &lsquo;an aggressive set of actions to redefine the proper role&rsquo; of the federal government &hellip; <strong>Grants for occupational safety and health training programs: $11 million<\/strong>&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/safety.blr.com\/workplace-safety-news\/safety-administration\/OSHA-Occupational-Safety-and-Health-Administration\/OSHA-budget-seeks-more-enforcement-funding-cuts-tr\/\">Safety BLR<\/a>: &ldquo;In order to balance out the increases, <strong>OSHA has eliminated all funding for its Susan Harwood Training Grant program<\/strong>, which received around $10.5 million in both 2017 and 2018. <strong>The program, established in 1978, provided 1- to 5-year competitive grants to nonprofit organizations to develop and conduct occupational safety and health training programs<\/strong>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trump&rsquo;s budget would cut nearly 13% from the office that ensures that contractors who do business with the federal government don&rsquo;t discriminate. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lexology.com\/library\/detail.aspx?g=dceff00e-9cca-4360-844d-39016103fd29\">Lexology<\/a>: &ldquo;As it did last year, the budget proposes significant cuts to the funds allocated to OFCCP. <strong>The proposed budget allocates to OFCCP just over $91 million, a decrease of nearly $12.7 million (or 12.5%).<\/strong> The budget also seeks to cut OFCCP&rsquo;s headcount by 75 full-time equivalents &ndash; a reduction of more than 14% from fiscal year 2018.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law360.com\/articles\/1009489\/dol-sends-1-000-advance-audit-notices-to-contractors\">Law360<\/a>: &ldquo;<strong>The OFCCP is a DOL office that polices federal contractors for compliance with anti-discrimination law and policy<\/strong>. It directs contractors to establish a plan for complying with federal affirmative action rules and holds them to it via audits.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Trump&rsquo;s budget would cut an employment reentry program for formerly incarcerated individuals by more than 11%. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left:.5in;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clasp.org\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/2018\/02\/2018.02.15%20Trump%27s%20budget%20further%20harms%20vulnerable%20students.pdf\">Center for Law and Social Policy<\/a>: &ldquo;More specifically, the budget: &hellip; <strong>Cuts Reentry Employment Opportunities (REO), a program for formerly incarcerated individuals, by more than 11 percent<\/strong>.
