{"id":2540,"date":"2018-04-25T17:37:00","date_gmt":"2018-04-25T17:37:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/democrats.org\/blog\/2018\/04\/25\/health-care-top-voting-issue-again\/"},"modified":"2018-04-25T17:37:00","modified_gmt":"2018-04-25T17:37:00","slug":"health-care-top-voting-issue-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/democrats.org\/news\/health-care-top-voting-issue-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Care Top Voting Issue, Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In last night&rsquo;s special election, in a heavily-Republican district in Arizona, Democrats won a much larger percentage of the vote than expected &ndash; in part because many of those who voted disagreed with Republicans&rsquo; efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.&nbsp; A majority of voters in this extremely-red district named health care as their top issue.&nbsp; The Republican Party should take the hint &#8211; it&rsquo;s long past time to end their health care sabotage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Democrats closed a big gap in this heavily-Republican district. It&rsquo;s no surprise, considering health care was the top issue for voters:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicpolicypolling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/AZ8SpecialElectionExitPoll.pdf\">58%<\/a> of voters said health care was the top issue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Voters disapproved of Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicpolicypolling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/AZ8SpecialElectionExitPoll.pdf\">5 points<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicpolicypolling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/AZ8SpecialElectionExitPoll.pdf\">54%<\/a> of voters said we should keep and work to improve the Affordable Care Act.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Voters were less likely to support Republican Debbie Lesko because of the Republican health care agenda by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicpolicypolling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/AZ8SpecialElectionExitPoll.pdf\">7-point margin<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publicpolicypolling.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/AZ8SpecialElectionExitPoll.pdf\">plurality<\/a> of voters said Democrat Hiral Tipirneni better reflected their views on health care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In last night&rsquo;s special election, in a heavily-Republican district in Arizona, Democrats won a much larger percentage of the vote than expected &ndash; in part because many of those who voted disagreed with Republicans&rsquo; efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.&nbsp; A majority of voters in this extremely-red district named health care as their top <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":0,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2540","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-press-release"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.0 -
